The Australian University of Theology is Australia's largest network of theological colleges with over 2,500 studying at 15 Colleges across Australia.

This position is based in the AUT Office in the Sydney CBD, and includes a mixture of in office and work from home duties. The position collaborates closely with the Vice-Chancellor (VC)/CEO across all aspects of institutional governance and management.

The position involves a set of core duties and the skills needed to complete these duties, as well as a wider range of desirable duties in which some applicants may have additional skills (recognising that it is unlikely that an applicant would have all desirable skills).

Core Duties and Skills

  • Assisting with the peak AUT committees (Council and Academic Board) for meeting preparation, papers, minute taking, record keeping, and related governance duties
  • Assisting with documenting and managing AUT Office regulatory reporting, and liaising across AUT teams for reporting obligations
  • Assisting with liaison with AUT stakeholders both internally (such as theological colleges and churches) and externally (government, TEQSA, etc)
  • Assisting with meeting and event management for AUT functions, including peak committees and AUT workshops and events
  • Assisting the VC with confidential matters including responses to student grievances and Gender Based Violence/Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (GBV/SASH)
  • Providing assistance to AUT staff who manage GBV/SASH disclosures and reporting, including providing support to people who have been affected by GBV/SASH (under the guidance of the VC and AUT Moderation and Inclusion Manager)
  • Willingness to undertake training in specialised areas to support the duties of the Executive Officer (including GBV/SASH, regulatory requirements, research, etc)
  • Assisting the VC with policy development and revision
  • Assisting with managing the VC’s emails, calendar, travel, etc

Desirable Additional Duties and Skills

Assisting the VC with:

  • Fundraising
  • Marketing and media liaison
  • Research and writing, including quantitative research skills
  • Promoting the Christian faith in the public square
  • Exploring the use of AI for enhancing administrative processes

The position is under the Higher Education Industry - General Staff Award at HEW 7. Note that AUT pays above relevant Award rates.

The AUT is a Christian organisation and active Christian faith is an inherent requirement of this position. Applicants should be active in a Christian faith community and personally endorse the AUT's Christian Foundation as defined in the AUT Constitution.

The appointee must have a current NSW Working With Children's Check. Training in safe ministry is desirable.
