Role Overview

This role supports the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand by providing practical HR advice, guidance and support to pastors, congregations, employees and volunteers across the church community.

Working within the Church Worker Support team, you will respond to a broad range of people matters, including leave, remuneration guidance, workplace relationships, policy interpretation and general employment practice. You will triage enquiries, provide coaching to local leaders and help equip congregations to confidently manage their responsibilities as employers.

The role also contributes to the development of HR resources, training and education initiatives, and supports the ongoing review of policies and practices in line with legislation and organisational needs.

About the Person

You are a HR professional who enjoys supporting people and working in a purpose driven environment. You bring empathy, sound judgement and the ability to coach others through people related matters.

You are comfortable working within a Christian organisational context and engaging respectfully with Christian values and ministry contexts as part of supporting church communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide HR generalist advice, coaching and guidance to congregations and church leaders
• Support employment matters including leave, remuneration, classifications and general HR practice
• Provide guidance aligned to Fair Work, legislation and organisational frameworks
• Contribute to HR projects, learning initiatives and resource development
• Maintain and update HR policies, guides and tools
• Support wellbeing, return to work and safe workplace practices
• Triage enquiries through a shared inbox and support model
• Assist leaders to navigate workplace conversations and people challenges

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Experience in HR advisory, coordinator or generalist roles
• Qualification in Human Resources or related discipline
• Working knowledge of Fair Work and employment frameworks
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
• High level discretion and confidentiality
• Experience in values based, community or Christian environments well regarded
