SIM Australia (Serving in Mission - sim.org.au) is a Christian mission agency helping to make the Gospel global. We serve and support cross-cultural workers from anywhere in the world as they take the message of Jesus to people and places where He is least known.

SIM is seeking a Communications & Media Writer with a heart for God and a passion for mission to help us mobilise more people, prayer and funds for cross-cultural mission.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your God-given communication gifts to share stories of Christ’s global mission through SIM! Applicants who understand cross-cultural mission are highly desirable for this role.

The part-time position with SIM Australia would be for 3-4 days per week and can be worked remotely/hybrid although time zones should reflect the Sydney office hours.

Essential knowledge, skills and competencies

The successful applicant will:

  • work as part of the SIM Australia Comms & Media Team in Sydney, helping us share inspiring field stories/reports with mission enquirers and partners.
  • participate in all functions of the Comms & Media Team related to copy editing & writing and proofing in a range of mission communications including writing and editing e-news, magazine and newsletter articles, fundraising appeals video scripts, social media and web content.
  • develop content for SIM’s ministry and project fundraising appeals and acquisition campaigns.
  • take primary responsibility for research and development of field stories and processes related to production of SIM communications and appeals.
  • collaborate with the SIM Australia Comms & Media Team to provide social media content, help develop web banners, event banners, posters, SIM publications/brochures, mission worker prayer cards, newsletters, etc.

Desirable Requirements

The successful applicant will be an active Christian communicator with a servant heart, who brings the following skills and attributes:

  • Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in communications, fundraising, donor engagement, public relations, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging and persuasive content.
  • Experience in communications, public relations or a related area, including writing and presenting proposals or appeals that engage supporters (or customers).
  • The ability to work productively to deadlines within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • A sound understanding of God’s Word and its application to writing and communications.
  • A genuine passion for and understanding of cross-cultural Christian mission.

This is a unique opportunity to use your skills and talents to help make Christ known where He is least known.

This part time position of 3-4 days per week is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent role, subject to performance and operational needs.
