Pastor (Youth & Young Adults)

Job Description

A vibrant, multi-generational church community in Brisbane. We are passionate about raising up the next generation of leaders and cultivating a disciple-making culture. We are seeking a relational full-time youth & young adults pastor to work alongside our Minister-in-Charge, with a primary focus on shepherding and discipling our high school students and young adults.

Key Responsibilities

Junior Youth Ministry (JMYF)

  • Partner with the Minister-in-Charge to provide pastoral leadership & oversight for the Saturday evening high school youth ministry.
  • Build genuine, Christ-centred relationships with students.
  • Mentor, equip, and support volunteer leaders.

Young Adult Ministry (MEYA)

  • Work with the Minister-in-Charge to provide pastoral oversight and care for the young adults (university to young working adults) ministry
  • Attend, encourage, and support fortnightly cell groups and monthly combined gatherings.
  • Foster spiritual growth and community among young adults.

Preaching & Teaching

  • Preach monthly at the Sunday English Service.
  • Able to work collaboratively with the English Pastor to plan and deliver sequential, expository sermon series.

Children’s Sunday School Ministry

  • Train, encourage, and support Sunday School teachers in children’s ministry.
  • Assist in developing a discipleship pathway for older Sunday School children transitioning into youth ministry.

Pastoral Care & Church Leadership

  • Share in providing pastoral care across the wider congregation, including urgent pastoral support when required.
  • Participate actively in church leadership and governance, including Local Church Executive Committee (LCEC) meetings, the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and other connectional meetings.

About You

You are someone who:

  • Is a committed Christian with a personal faith in Jesus Christ and is able to clearly articulate the Gospel from an evangelical, Christ-centred perspective.
  • Holds relevant tertiary qualifications in theology or ministry.
  • Has experience serving in youth and/or young adult ministry.
  • Is a relational leader with a genuine passion for discipling high school students, young adults, and volunteer leaders.
  • Communicates effectively with young people, parents, church leaders, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, initiative, and a heart for seeing young people grow in their faith.
  • Can work independently, manage a flexible schedule, and collaborate well with the pastoral team and ministry leaders.
  • Strongly aligns with the doctrinal convictions of the Methodist Church (see empmc.org.au/faith). Applicants from other evangelical traditions are welcome, provided they are willing to minister within the theological and pastoral framework of our church.
  • Holds, or is willing to obtain, a valid Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and is committed to upholding Safe Church policies and practices.
