Position Description

The Laboratory Technician provides technical support to the Science Department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and well-resourced delivery of practical science lessons across Years 7–12. The role involves preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment and materials, managing chemical and biological stock, and supporting compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements in all science learning spaces.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • A committed Christian who is active in their local church
  • Willingness to uphold the vision and ethos of Parkes Christian School
  • Relevant qualification in Laboratory Technology, Science, or a related field (e.g. Certificate III/IV in Laboratory Skills) or equivalent experience.
  • Current NSW Working With Children’s Check
  • Demonstrated understanding of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling procedures.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple year levels and subjects.
  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with teaching staff and students.
  • Basic computer literacy (inventory systems, email, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace).

Desirable

  • Sound knowledge of secondary school Science curriculum requirements.
  • Experience working in a school laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant state WHS legislation and Safe Work Australia guidelines.
