Nungalinya College is the premier training institution for Indigenous church leaders, located in Darwin. Nungalinya is formally supported by the Anglican, Uniting and Catholic churches of the Northern Territory.
The College is seeking 2 active and enthusiastic Christian Trainers to deliver quality training and support students in developing the skills, knowledge and confidence required for their studies and future roles.
As a theological college, Nungalinya provides education and training within a Christian context, with students coming from remote Northern Territory communities. The successful applicant will contribute to a culturally respectful, supportive and inclusive learning environment and work sensitively within an ecumenical environment that values Indigenous cultures and First Languages.
The successful applicant will have a genuine commitment to Christian education and the development of Indigenous church leaders, together with the ability to build positive and respectful relationships with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
Required Criteria
- A committed Christian believer and church member
- For one of the Trainer positions: A TESOL qualification and/or demonstrated experience teaching English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D)
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122), or willingness to obtain within 6 months of commencement
- Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in training, teaching or adult education
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the Bible and Christian faith
- Willingness to work sensitively and effectively within an ecumenical environment that values Indigenous cultures and First Languages
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to develop positive and respectful relationships with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds
Desirable Criteria
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122), or willingness to obtain within 6 months of commencement
- A qualification in Biblical Studies, Theology or a related field
- Experience training and/or working with leaders from remote Indigenous communities.
- Experience working in vocational education and training (VET)
- Experience developing and delivering training programs and learning resources
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs
Police Check and Ochre Card
All staff at Nungalinya are required to pass a Police Check and obtain an Ochre Card (for working with children). This is at the employee's expense and must be applied for at the time of commencing employment.
If you cannot satisfactorily pass the Police Check and Ochre Card, you must discuss this with the College prior to commencing employment.

Nungalinya is a Combined Churches Training College for Indigenous Australians. The College is situated in Casuarina, a northern suburb of Darwin, Australia’s gateway city of the North.
‘Nungalinya’ is an Aboriginal word used by the local Larrakia people, whose land includes the Darwin area. The word refers to Old Man Rock, a reef lying off Casuarina Beach, which can be seen at low tide, that was a place of learning for the young men. The Larrakia people themselves suggested that the College use that name reflecting its identity as a place of learning and also the biblical idea of the “rock” of Christ as the foundation for our lives.

At Nungalinya College we train men and women for leadership roles in churches and communities, and in exploring the Bible and Christian faith contextually. We train family members to make sense of the wider community and to learn its ways, so as to participate healthily in holistic community life while celebrating and strengthening Indigenous identity.
