Nungalinya College is the premier training institution for Indigenous church leaders, located in Darwin. Nungalinya is formally supported by the Anglican, Uniting and Catholic churches of the Northern Territory.

As a theological college, Nungalinya provides education and training within a Christian context, with students coming from remote Northern Territory communities. The College is committed to providing a culturally respectful, supportive and inclusive learning environment and works sensitively within an ecumenical environment that values Indigenous cultures and First Languages.

The College is seeking an experienced and committed Christian leader to support the Principal in the effective strategic and operational management of the College.

The successful applicant will contribute to the College's academic leadership, staff development, RTO compliance and continuous improvement, while fostering a Christ-centred learning environment that honours and supports Indigenous students, communities and culture.

The successful applicant will have a genuine commitment to Christian education and the development of Indigenous church leaders, together with demonstrated leadership experience in education and strong knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.

About the Role

The Assistant Principal provides strategic and operational leadership to support the Principal in the effective management of the College. This role is responsible for maintaining high standards in academic leadership, staff supervision, and Registered Training Organisation (RTO) compliance while fostering a Christ-centred learning environment that honours and supports Indigenous students, communities, and culture.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

• Assist in providing leadership for the academic and vocational programs of the College.
• Support the development, implementation, and review of curriculum and training programs.
• Promote excellence in teaching, learning, and student outcomes.
• Mentor and support trainers, assessors, and academic staff to maintain high educational standards.
• Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

RTO Compliance

• Ensure the College maintains compliance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), ASQA requirements, and relevant legislation.
• Monitor quality assurance systems and continuous improvement processes.
• Support the development and review of policies and procedures relating to VET delivery.

Staff Leadership and Management

• Provide leadership, supervision, and mentoring to academic and administrative staff.
• Promote a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing workplace culture.
• Foster teamwork and effective communication across the College.

Christian Leadership

• Model Christian character, integrity, and servant leadership in all aspects of the role.
• Support the vision and mission of the College.
• Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for Indigenous cultures and communities while integrating Christian values into leadership practices.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

Essential

• A personal commitment to the Christian faith and agreement with the College's Statement of Faith.
• Demonstrated and significant experience in a senior leadership position in a Christian theological training and / or proven experience in organisational leadership.
• Advanced degree in Theology, Bible Studies, or Educational Leadership
• Strong understanding of RTO compliance, ASQA requirements, and quality assurance systems.
• Qualifications in Training and Assessment (TAE or equivalent/current requirements).
• Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing staff.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and quality education.
• Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Indigenous students and communities.

Desirable

• Experience working in an Indigenous education setting.
• Experience in Bible College or theological education.
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultural perspectives and community engagement.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Education, Leadership, Theology, or a related discipline.
