Power to Change Australia is looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join us as a missionary and serve with CCCI’s Global Technology Solutions Team.

You would remain based in Australia while working as part of a distributed global technology team supporting ministries across many countries and cultures.

This is a substantial professional data role. You will help build trusted data flows between global systems, turn complex information into useful insights, and ensure sensitive data is handled securely and responsibly.

It is also a missionary role: an opportunity to use your professional expertise directly in helping fulfil the Great Commission.

About the role

Global ministries increasingly depend on reliable data to understand what is happening, make good decisions and steward their people and resources well.

As Senior Data Engineer, you will help ensure that the right data gets to the right people in a form they can trust.

Your work will include:

• designing and managing data flows between global systems and our data warehouse;
• using SQL and ETL/ELT processes to integrate, cleanse and prepare data;
• designing dimensional data models drawing on multiple data sources;
• working with leaders and analysts to understand their data and reporting needs;
• helping move data through platforms including Google BigQuery and Power BI;
• strengthening data governance, privacy and security;
• helping national ministries solve practical data problems;
• training and equipping others to use organisational data appropriately; and
• collaborating with global technology, privacy, security and analytics teams.

You will work with colleagues from different countries and cultures, balancing enterprise technology standards with the practical needs of ministries on the ground.

About you

We would particularly like to hear from experienced data professionals who combine technical capability with good judgement, communication and a desire to serve others.

You are likely to bring:

• professional experience in data engineering, data architecture or a closely related field;
• a strong understanding of databases and complex data structures;
• working knowledge of SQL;
• experience building ETL/ELT pipelines;
• experience designing data models and integrating data from multiple sources;
• an understanding of data governance, security and privacy;
• the ability to translate business or ministry needs into practical technical solutions; and
• the confidence to contribute your professional judgement while working collaboratively in a global team.

Experience with dbt, Google BigQuery, Power BI and the effective use of AI in data workflows would be valuable. We do not expect every suitable candidate to arrive with experience in every part of our technology stack; some capabilities can be developed in the role.

A different kind of missionary opportunity

Power to Change Australia is part of Campus Crusade for Christ International, known as Cru or CCCI in many parts of the world. Around the world, CCCI ministries are helping people encounter Jesus, grow as disciples and take the gospel to others.

Not every missionary serves on a university campus or in frontline evangelism.

Global ministry also requires people who can build secure technology, manage data, develop enterprise systems and help thousands of missionaries and ministry leaders work more effectively.

For the right person, data engineering can be part of their contribution to the Great Commission.

How the appointment works

You would join Power to Change Australia as a missionary, while your professional assignment, supervision and day-to-day work would be with the global technology team.

The role may be undertaken full-time or potentially part-time.

You can be based anywhere in Australia. Power to Change also has offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and where practical we would encourage some connection with one of these offices so that you can participate in an Australian ministry community as well as your global team.

Our missionaries ordinarily develop a team of people who partner with their ministry through prayer and financial support. We will explain this process clearly and can discuss transition arrangements and other possible pathways as part of the recruitment conversation.
