About the Uniting Church
The Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) is a uniquely Australian Christian organisation that began in 1977 with the union of the Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian movements. It is one of the largest religious organisations in Australia with over 400 congregations and faith communities across NSW and ACT.
The Synod of NSW and ACT is guided by the values of Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Compassion, and supported by the Synod Mission Services team, which provides strategic, pastoral, and operational support to enable vibrant congregations, vital leadership, and transformative community engagement.
About DRCN and The Shepherd Project
The Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network (DRCN) is a network of 400 volunteer chaplains across NSW/ACT. The DRCN is coordinated by the NSW/ACT Synod of the Uniting Church of Australia.
Under Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with various state and territory government departments, these chaplains provide services in recovery and evacuation centers or the aftermath of other emergencies.
The Shepherd Project, supported by the NSW Government through the Multicultural NSW Safe Places for Faith Communities Program, builds on insights from a Churchill Fellowship. It engages faith and denominational leaders to help them identify how to effectively respond to a violent attack and strengthen leadership during crises.
Through conversations, surveys, and workshops, the project gathers input from leaders while also creating space for different faiths to understand each other’s needs and promote solidarity and peace.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Project Officer – Multifaith Community Safety to contribute to the delivery of the Shepherd Project. Reporting to the National Disaster Recovery Officer/Lead, you will provide project coordination, administration and stakeholder engagement support across a range of project activities. Since we began over 40 years ago, we have been following Jesus, working for justice, growing as disciples and serving communities in these lands now called Australia.
From our capital cities to the heart of the outback, you will find around 1600 congregations and faith communities joyfully worshipping in more than 45 languages, including First Nations languages. In Australia’s 2021 Census, more than 670,000 people identified themselves as having an affiliation with the Uniting Church. In the work of our agencies we serve alongside local communities and our Church Partners across the Pacific, Asia and Africa to inspire a better world.
We believe all people are made in the image of God and deeply loved. As members of the Church, we make up the one body of Christ. We encourage one another to learn more about and grow with God, to care for each other and God's creation, to seek justice and to live lovingly in the world.
