Northreach began in 1888 when a small group of Baptist believers gathered in Townsville and established what would become a lasting Christian witness in North Queensland. From humble beginnings in a schoolroom on Sturt Street, the church has grown through seasons of challenge, faith, and expansion.
Over the decades, the ministry extended across Townsville through church plants, outreach ministries, children's programs, missions work, and community initiatives. Significant milestones include ministry on Palm Island, the formation of several Baptist congregations throughout the region, and the opening of the Kirwan campus in 1982.
The church has continually sought to serve both its local community and the wider region through practical ministries, community housing initiatives, hospitality, and opportunities for people of all ages to grow in faith and connection.Originally known as Townsville District Baptist Church, the church became Northreach Baptist Church in 2010, reflecting its vision to serve regional, rural, and remote communities across Northern Australia and beyond.
Today, under the leadership of Pastor Garry Wynn, Northreach continues its mission of helping people follow Jesus, build authentic community, and reach others with the hope of the Gospel.
We thank God for His faithfulness throughout our history and look forward with faith to all He has planned for the future.
