Job Description

Oaktree Anglican is seeking a pioneering and ordained Assistant Pastor to begin in 2026 to revitalise our Elsternwick site and to lead our ministry with young people across both churches......

This is a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to a church that has a strong history and is renewed in its vision towards a fresh new season.

This will be someone who has a heart for those who don’t know Jesus, has previously been able to plant, lead and grow new ministries, and has experience in ministry to children, youth, and young adults.

The Assistant Pastor will work with the Lead Pastor, other staff and lay leaders to provide pastoral leadership across these two main areas.

The Assistant Pastor will have responsibility across two main areas:

  • Revitalise our Elsternwick site (St Clement’s) which will require the vision and gifting of a church planter.
  • Lead our ministry with young people (children, youth and young adults) across the church as it strengthens and grows.

This is a full-time position with housing provided. It is possible that this could become a job share with two part-time positions for appropriate candidates.

The expectation for the Assistant Pastor is that they will be a godly and energetic leader, highly relational, an excellent Bible teacher, a strategic thinker, able to lead staff and volunteers, able to equip and develop others for leadership and ministry as well as have the capacity to grow and develop ministries. Due to the level of responsibility this role entails, it is expected that applicants will have suitable previous experience.

The successful applicant will be working with a small committed team and serve according to the Oaktree Code of Conduct and the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne Safe Ministry protocols and codes of conduct.

Oaktree Anglican Church is a charismatic evangelical Anglican Church in Melbourne’s Inner South East combining the sites of St. Mary's Caulfield and St. Clement's Elsternwick.

Core Responsibilities

Missional St Clement's

  • Leading evangelistic and missional process for the renewal of the Oaktree Elsternwick site (St Clement's)
  • Developing and implementing a strategic plan and roadmap under the wider vision of Oaktree
  • Pastoral oversight for the worship centre
  • Serving as a minister of the Word in various contexts. Preaching programs are developed in consultation with the Lead Pastor.

Young People

  • Leading, organising and encouraging the Oaktree Kids and Youth team on Sundays
  • Oversight of additional connection programs (playgroup, family events, youth group)
  • Leading Young Adults and developing emerging leaders

Key Criteria

  • Appropriate theological qualifications (BMin, MDiv, or similar)
  • Ordained Anglican Priest
  • Effective in Bible teaching and preaching
  • Ability to develop a strategic mission focus with others.
  • Ability to manage change.
  • Relational skills across all ages and stages
  • Particular experience working with young people of today
  • Ability to pastorally care for individuals and groups
  • Ability in organisation and administration
  • Current Working with Children Check, Police Check and Clearance for Ministry with ADOM

Conditions of Employment

  • This is a full-time position with housing provided
  • It is possible that this could become a job share with two part-time positions for appropriate candidates
  • The role includes Sundays and other out of hours commitments including evenings and weekends.
  • The position is available from March 2026
  • The appointment is for an initial period of three years (with the possibility of extension)
  • This position reports to the Lead Pastor (Vicar) of Oaktree Anglican
  • There is a review at the end of twelve months
  • Oaktree allows five weeks annual leave (pro rata)
