We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pastoral Care Officer to join our Wellbeing Team and support our mission of providing Christ‑centred, holistic care to every student.

About the Role

The Pastoral Care Officer plays a key role in fostering a warm, supportive, and faith‑filled environment for secondary students. This position involves providing pastoral, emotional, spiritual, and wellbeing support through one‑on‑one conversations, small‑group initiatives, and whole‑school programs.

Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, leadership, and external support providers, you will help students navigate the academic, social, and emotional challenges of adolescence all within a deeply Christian framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Christ‑centred pastoral care to students, reflecting the love and compassion of Jesus.
  • Support the spiritual, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing of students.
  • Assist in delivering wellbeing programs, staff training sessions, homeroom devotions, assemblies, and camps.
  • Liaise with parents, guardians, teachers, wellbeing staff, and external agencies when required.
  • Maintain confidential case notes, wellbeing plans, and appropriate documentation.
  • Uphold all Child Safety, OHS, and College policy requirements.

About You

You are someone who cares genuinely about young people and is passionate about serving in a Christian school community. You bring emotional resilience, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills, and you can build trust and rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Experience supporting young people in a wellbeing, pastoral care, chaplaincy, counselling, or youth work role.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • An understanding of trauma‑informed and restorative practices.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and engage confidently with teachers, families, and external professionals.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate, confidential records.

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Counselling, Social Work, or related field.
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID009 CPR
  • 22702VIC Asthma Management
  • 22578VIC Anaphylaxis Management
  • Valid Working with Children Check

Desirable:

  • Experience in school‑based wellbeing roles
  • Trauma‑informed or restorative practices training
  • Certificate IV in Chaplaincy or Pastoral Care

Christian Ethos Requirements

As a staff member at Covenant College, you must:
