About the role

As a Ministry Assistant, this is your opportunity to be responsible for supporting the Corps Officer Team in the delivery of the mission of The Salvation Army/Corps through development and facilitation of a specific program in an integrated setting.

Reporting to the Corps Officer – Team Leader, this is a permanent full-time role, located in Coburg, VIC. 

This role is identified as requiring a committed Christian, in accordance with Section 351(2)(c) of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), as it is necessary for the role to conform to the doctrines, beliefs, and principles of The Salvation Army.

How you will make an impact 

  • Develop, implement and oversee community and church-based ministry activities aligned with mission intentions and Corps goals including Young Adults Ministry, Sunday worship participation, preaching, service leadership, pastoral care and discipleship as agreed with the Corps Officer
  • Recruit, train and engage volunteers in line with TSA policies and procedures while providing pastoral support, encouragement and discipleship
  • Identify and manage risks, hazards, near misses and incidents in accordance with TSA processes to ensure safety of participants, workers and TSA
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with relevant community groups and participate in agreed funding activities while monitoring programs to operate within approved budgets
  • Undertake administrative and operational responsibilities including promotional materials, newsletters and other duties as directed by line management

What you will bring

  • A commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • An ability to offer pastoral assistance, to offer prayer and to explain the Christian Gospel
  • Experience in a Ministry position (desirable)
  • Capacity to facilitate groups and one to one with a particular focus e.g. faith-based groups
  • A member / soldier of a local Salvation Army Corps
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence and employee Working with Children’s Check
