About the Ministry

Platform Nine, a vital part of Kingsway Community Care, is a Christian housing and homelessness service providing safe, supportive accommodation for people experiencing crisis. We are seeking a person or couple to Volunteer Live-In Pastoral Carer & Caretaker who feels called to serve through presence, pastoral care, and practical support within our single males residential setting.

This unique role beautifully combines Christian pastoral care, community living, and caretaker responsibilities to support both our guests and the smooth daily operation of the accommodation site.

What We Offer (The Arrangement) - free accommodation

In lieu of a minimum 10 hours per week commitment plus ongoing caretaker responsibilities, you will be provided with

On-site Accommodation: A comfortable 2/3 Bedroom Unit.

Please note: The caretaker is responsible for their own electricity usage. Continuation of the role is subject to mutual agreement, wellbeing, boundaries, and service needs.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will provide a "ministry of presence," contributing to a household culture of safety, dignity, respect, and hope. Your duties will include:

Pastoral Care & Community Life: Welcoming new guests, fostering a safe community environment, holding regular house meetings, supporting shared meals, and modeling healthy boundaries. You will offer prayer or spiritual support only when invited and appropriate.

Caretaker & Site Duties: Conducting regular safety, security, and maintenance checks; maintaining the cleanliness of common areas; preparing rooms for new guests; and responding to after-hours concerns.

Collaboration: Working closely with Platform Nine staff, completing incident reports, and attending required training and staff supervision.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • A committed Christian faith, lived out respectfully and without pressure on others.
  • Willingness and ability to provide pastoral care through presence, listening, and support.
  • Capacity to live on-site and contribute positively to a shared residential environment.
  • Emotional maturity, reliability, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries in a live-in role.
  • A current National Police Check and Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Willingness to align with organisational policies, accountability structures, and ongoing training.

Desirable:

  • Experience or study in ministry, chaplaincy, pastoral care, housing, or community services.
  • Lived experience of recovery, ministry, or community living.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
  • First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Please NOTE: This role would suit someone who is working part time or studying , semi retired etc . You need some flexible hours in your week to attend meetings with staff and be present on site for community meetings and meals.
