Job Description

After thirteen years under one Senior Pastor, Restore Church is entering a season of transition, and we are praying for the person God is preparing to lead us next.

Restore is a congregation in Castle Hill that takes Jesus and his teaching seriously, reads Scripture as a unified story centred on him, and wants its life and culture to be shaped by the gospel. We are looking for a Senior Pastor who will love this church, teach faithfully, lead with authenticity and humility, and help us keep growing into a community marked by the all-embracing welcome of Jesus.

Who we’re looking for

This role holds the pastoral, teaching, and leadership oversight of the church, in genuine partnership with a plural Eldership. We think the person who thrives here will be:

  • A faithful teacher.  able to preach with theological depth, pastoral warmth, and accessibility, and to develop other teachers.
  • A pastoral leader.  who fosters a culture of care and honest community, who can guide, mentor and develop leaders, whether they are employed staff or volunteers, to thrive and grow;
  • Theologically serious and generous.  anchored in Jesus-centred conviction, able to hold open questions without losing clarity.
  • Secure and self-aware.  with an identity that does not depend on the role, and the resilience to lead through criticism and setback.
  • Attentive to the wounded.  with real capacity to pastor people who need restoration. Our name and calling take that seriously.

What you’d be stepping into

A church that is honest about transition and moving forward in God’s purposes. A plural eldership that shares authority rather than delegating it. A denominational home, Churches of Christ NSW & ACT, with pastoral support, formation programs, and collaborative networks behind you. And a congregation in one of Sydney’s most family-dense regions, with room to grow.  There is more information about our vision, values, culture, beliefs and ministries at www.restorechurch.com.au.

The essentials

You will need to demonstrate each of these. Full detail is in the Position Description.

  • A degree in Divinity, Theology, or Ministry from a recognised institution.
  • At least five years of fruitful local church ministry leadership, in a pastoral or senior-pastoral capacity.
  • Evidenced preaching and teaching capacity (recent sermon recordings will be requested).
  • Experience and excellence in leading, managing and developing teams, paid staff and volunteers.
  • Eligibility for endorsement by Churches of Christ NSW & ACT, or the willingness and capacity to pursue it.
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain one, and the ability to meet Safe Churches NSW standards.
  • The legal right to work in Australia.

One thing that makes this application different

Alongside the usual materials, we ask candidates to submit a short Theological Profile: a written statement of how you read Scripture, understand the gospel, and shape ministry. We are not looking for a particular set of conclusions. We are looking for theological seriousness, pastoral wisdom, and intellectual honesty. A thoughtful answer matters more to us than a confident one. The Position Description sets out the questions in full.
