Who we are
GBC is a growing, intercultural and intergenerational church on Sydney’s North Shore currently meeting in multiple congregations each Sunday and in other ways through the week. Presently we have regular Sunday gatherings in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Japanese. These congregations also share ministries, working together in such things as outreach and children’s work.
We are seeking an additional member for our existing pastoral team who will help us to continue maturing in our communion with God, community with one another, and commission in the world. Our vision is to be a distinctive and united body of Christ’s people responsive to the Holy Spirit, supportive of one another, and effective in expressing God’s love and truth locally and globally. Our philosophy of ministry appreciates that ministry belongs to the whole church, and that pastoral leadership is best done as a team, whereby we complement and support one another by our particular strengths, gifts and abilities, being flexible and adjusting roles as necessary.
Our needs
We are seeking to appoint a full-time or part-time pastor to oversee the Mandarin congregation.
This ministry includes the following responsibilities:
• Pastoral oversight of Mandarin congregation and its services and groups
• Regular preaching and teaching
• Training and discipleship (in groups and via individual relationships)
• Pastoral care and visitation
• Cultivating prayerfulness
• Leadership in developing outreach strategy and activity
• Work as a member of the pastoral team and diaconate aligned to the agreed vision of the church
• Administration and organisation.
Essential requirements
• Appropriate theological and professional education, Christian maturity, and at least 2-year’s ministry experience
• Ability to organise, train and lead other leaders
• Commitment to growing the Mandarin congregation as a connected part of the whole church
• Discernment, faithfulness and loyalty to give long-term commitment to the church
• Ability to communicate in English to participate as part of the leadership team.

Gordon Baptist Church is an intercultural and intergenerational church, learning together what it means to live with Jesus as King. We are not afraid of doing things differently and challenging our ideas as they intersect at the cross of Christ. This connects us with our local community as we join with God in his work in the world.
We’re a growing church with an average attendance of 330 people across four Sunday gatherings (in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin), in addition to family, youth, pre-school and language-learning ministries throughout the week. We have five full-time pastors and vacancies for a Children’s Pastor and a Communications Manager (both part-time roles). Our facilities are within walking distance of Gordon Station.
