'Work directly with residents to strengthen and build genuine relationships, supporting residents to form a local leadership group that shapes the project's direction, and co-designing activities that reflect resident priorities and local strengths'.....
Over the past year, Ashburton Baptist Church has been building relationships, sharing meals, and earning trust with residents and service providers in our neighbourhood. Now we're ready for the next chapter, and we're looking for someone to help write it, but not alone.
The relationships we've formed are inviting us to consider, what could grow here if we built it together?
This role exists to help answer that question. Not by arriving with a program, but by showing up consistently, listening carefully, and working alongside people who are already leading in their own community.
About the Role
The Community Engagement Project Coordinator will work directly with residents to strengthen what is already present. That means building genuine relationships, supporting residents to form a local leadership group that shapes the project's direction, and co-designing activities that reflect resident priorities and local strengths.
You'll also recruit and support volunteers from ABC to work effectively alongside residents, coordinate the weekly bread distribution program, and join our Hub community meal on Thursday evenings.
A key outcome of the project is to understand what actually works here, so the model can be useful elsewhere.
The role is 15.2 hours per week with flexible scheduling, and one fixed commitment each week: Thursday evenings from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who understands that the people closest to a place are usually its greatest resource, and who has the patience and skill to work in ways that reflect that.
You'll bring:
