Brisbane School of Theology invites applications for the position of a full-time lecturer in Old Testament to begin Semester 1, 2027. BST is a gospel-centred, evangelical and interdenominational Bible college, which has been training men and women for ministry and mission for more than 80 years. It provides theological formation for a lifetime of Christian service, congregational leadership, and cross-cultural mission. BST is an affiliate college of the Australian University of Theology.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will demonstrate mature Christian character, evangelical conviction, generosity across theological difference, and a willingness to embrace the mission and culture of BST. They will have a proven ability in teaching, preaching and scholarship, a relevant doctorate, and ministry experience.

The Role

Teaching & supervision

  • Teach units at degree, graduate and postgraduate levels (normally 2-3 units per semester). Specific units to be taught will be decided in consultation with the Principal. Proposed one-semester units are Old Testament Foundations (annually), Old Testament Prophets and Writings (annually), Old Testament exegesis units (rotation of four units over two years), Biblical Hebrew I & II (every other year). Includes preparation and administration of course and grading assessments.
  • Supervise projects for BTh/BMin Honours, MDiv and MTS students in the area of Old Testament; supervise MTh and PhD students in the area of Old Testament.

Research & scholarship

  • Research: pursue academic research, including publication in relevant academic venues.
  • Scholarship: publish in area of expertise in non-research venues (e.g., popular books, websites, podcasts).

Service

  • Engage in the College’s communal life and activities (e.g., leading chapel and preaching; involvement in Ministry Awareness Program, college camp; formally mentoring students).
  • Promote the college (e.g., preaching in churches, speaking at conferences).
  • Administrative duties as assigned by the Principal.
