Uniting Financial Services (UFS) is one of Australia’s most established ethical and ESG-focused financial institutions, with a long-standing history of supporting the mission and ministries of the Uniting Church.

Managing approximately $1.9 billion across treasury, lending and investment operations, UFS plays a significant role in supporting churches, schools, aged care, affordable housing, retirement living, and broader community initiatives throughout New South Wales and the ACT.

Operating to APRA-aligned governance and risk standards, UFS combines disciplined financial management with a genuine commitment to long-term social and community impact.

The Board is entering an important period of renewal, with upcoming leadership succession and continued strategic growth across lending, treasury and investment activities. As part of this planned succession process, UFS is seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a sophisticated and purpose-driven financial institution operating within a complex governance environment and contributing to meaningful social and community outcomes.

Working closely with the Chair, Board and executive leadership team, Directors will contribute to:

  • Strategic oversight and long-term stewardship
  • Governance, audit and risk management
  • Lending and investment oversight
  • Regulatory and compliance frameworks
  • Organisational sustainability and growth
  • Stakeholder engagement across church, community and commercial environments

The Board is particularly interested in individuals with senior executive, advisory or board experience within:

  • Banking and financial services
  • Credit risk and lending
  • Banking legal and regulatory environments
  • Audit, governance and compliance
  • Corporate strategy and transformation
  • Responsible and ESG investment
  • Cyber risk and cyber security governance


Candidates may come from ASX-listed organisations, banking institutions, professional services, investment management, legal advisory, or other complex governance environments.

  • Strong commercial judgement and strategic capability
  • The ability to contribute effectively within a collegiate Board environment
  • High levels of integrity, emotional intelligence and stakeholder engagement capability
  • A collaborative leadership style aligned with purpose-driven organisations
  • The capacity to contribute thoughtfully to governance discussions with both commercial and community sensitivity

An understanding of, or alignment with, the ethos and values of the Uniting Church in Australia will be highly regarded.
