About the Role

This role is to assist the School to provide practical assistance to Defence families and support the social and emotional wellbeing of Defence students within the school as part of the Defence School Mentor Program (DSMP).

The DSM as part of the Defence School Mentor Program is to ensure the smooth transition of families of Australian Defence Force personnel from school to school. This will be done in a manner that is God honouring and consistent with the School’s vision to provide a Christ-centred education in a learning community of Love, Nurture and Service.

The DSM will raise awareness of the Defence lifestyle and the types of support which can assist Defence students within the school. The Defence School Mentor is not a teacher, but a member of the School Wellbeing Team and Administration Team.

The DSM is a part-time position, 11 hours over 2 days per week term time only. The position is contingent upon funding to the school for the Defence School Mentor.

Essential Criteria

  • High level of communication skills both oral and written and the ability to communicate effectively
  • with a diverse range of people.
  • Understanding of the ADF organisation and additional challenges the posting cycles and
  • deployments place upon students from an ADF family.
  • Demonstrated skills in advocacy, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to liaise with a range of individuals and community groups.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as part of a broader team.
  • Ability to engage with students and staff positively, displaying respect and empathy.
  • Ability to follow correct procedures for all school matters.
  • Strong organisational ability and well-developed IT skills.
