Chaplain – Seniors Living, St Luke’s Anglicare Village

Job Description

Do you have a heart and gifts to pastor people in a Retirement Living situation?…

We are recruiting for a parish partnership chaplaincy role between Dapto Anglican Church and St Luke’s Anglicare Village, Dapto. This role involves the Chaplain being licensed to the Senior Minister of Dapto Anglican.

The purpose of the Chaplain is to provide spiritual care and Christian Ministry programming to the village community, firstly to residents, as well as their families and the Village staff. This involves leading worship services, Bible studies, visitation and pastoral support to nurture the faith of Christian residents, while also creating opportunities for non-Christians to explore the Christian message.

A healthy and thriving Chaplaincy ministry in the village is achieved through developing individual relationships with each resident and providing care according to their needs and preferences, while building trust and rapport with Village Management and staff.

St Luke’s Village has approximately 50 residents in seniors living and 80 residents in affordable housing. The Village has a newly established Thursday 10am Anglican service, which has an average of 25 residents meeting weekly.

The chaplain to be appointed will ideally be ordained and work well with the Dapto Anglican staff and the other part-time chaplain. They will need to have the ability to relate well to residents and across the different socio-economic demographics found in the Village.

The chaplain to be appointed will be a man who will work collaboratively with the other female Anglicare chaplain in planning and providing a mid-week church service and delivering chaplaincy across the village. He would ideally be ordained, but at least needs to be eligible for licencing by the Sydney Anglican Diocese.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide a Christ centred pastoral approach and be an example of Christian living.
  • Support residents with their spiritual needs, facilitate their ongoing spiritual growth, enable non-Christian residents to explore the Christian faith and encourage Christian residents in their faith.
  • Be responsible for the 10am church service on Thursdays including preaching and leading services. There is a great team of retired ministers and Dapto Anglican staff happy to help.
  • Provide pastoral care to residents, their families, and staff at St Luke’s Village. Prioritise visitation and people interaction.
  • Work collaboratively with the other chaplain to achieve the goals of chaplaincy.
  • Being a part of the Dapto Anglican staff means attending staff meetings monthly, meeting monthly with the Senior Minister and visiting some services. Making Dapto Anglican your home church is desirable but not necessary.

Requirements for success:

  • Relevant Theological training essential; Ordained Anglican or eligible for lay licensing by the Archbishop of Sydney.
  • Safe Ministry Training and Checks, adhere to “Faithfulness In Service” code of conduct.
  • Have good listening skills, a pastoral heart, and an ability to teach the Scriptures clearly.
  • Reliable, able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • A loyal, humble, teachable, generous, and servant hearted leader.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with supervisors, the Village Manager, as well as the Anglicare administration systems.
  • A willingness to be involved in an Anglican congregation/parish and proven record of experience in ministry and pastoral care.
  • A personal commitment to growth in the Christian faith.
  • Current driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • A current Working with Children Check & Federal Police Check clearance.
