Overview:

We are looking for an Assistant Children’s Pastor/Worker to join our growing children’s ministry!

New Life Evangelical Church (NLEC) is a non-denominational evangelical church based in Blackburn South. It has three congregations: Cantonese, Mandarin and English that meets at different locations.

New Life Kids (NLK) is NLEC’s children’s ministry and gathers every week on Sunday Mornings at the main church location. It welcomes children from Kinder to Year 6 from all three congregations. NLK, along with our youth ministry (Resonate), is overseen by the English Congregation.

Our mission is to lead and disciple children to be followers of Jesus, partnering with families to bring discipleship from church to their homes.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in developing our NLK leaders:

  • Serving on Sundays in NLK to model teaching and discipling of young people
  • Support our lead pastor and children’s pastor when we organise workshops and trainings for leaders and families
  • Build positive relationships with NLK leaders to support and encourage them
  • Mentor, encourage and build up volunteer leaders to grow in faith and leadership

Assist in developing strategies and procedures for best practices:

  • Help implement and improve our NLK curriculum to ensure teaching aligns with our discipleship goals
  • Communicating with volunteers and parents

Assist in administrative areas:

  • Administrative support for NLK leaders
  • Maintaining our database for the ministry
  • Compliance with Child Safety Guidelines

There is room to grow in this role and even an opportunity in the future to become the full-time children’s pastor/director if you demonstrate the gifts and leadership skills suitable for the role and culture of our church.

Desirable Skills:

  • Passionate about leading children to know and love Jesus
  • Flexible and adaptable learner
  • Be willing to work in a team, especially alongside our current children’s pastor and under the supervision of the English Lead Pastor.
  • Proficient in using digital tools (eg: email, social media, Canva)
  • Has cultural intelligence, especially in demonstrating some understanding of Chinese culture and desires to continue to learn about the different cultures in the church.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Fluency in English
  • Must provide a valid Working with Children Check and police check before commencement
  • A valid driver’s licence

Working Requirements:

  • FTE 0.6 (3 days/wk) – days are negotiable
  • Be part of the English Congregation, attending Sunday services when not rostered on to lead NLK
