Big Kids’ Table exists to be an informative, loving perspective and to create safe, honest conversations about Kingdom identity and sexuality for youth and young adults of faith.
We seek to create an online platform for such conversation, striving to become a safe resource for young people and their faith communities. Furthermore, we aim to facilitate tailored consultation and programs for such faith communities that will create powerful, creative and sustainable ministry transformation.
The most beautiful moments take place at the table with food, friendship and conversation. Everything we do comes back to this verse:
‘Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins’ – 1 John 4:7-10.
OUR VALUES
Below are the values that motivate our team to do what we do – these are our ‘why’. These values permeate everything we lay our hands to at BKT and keep us accountable to what God has given us to hold.
God First: to be a lover of, and led by, the Spirit of God and passionate about seeing the Kingdom come (Matthew 6:9-10 and Matthew 22:37-38).
Integrity: to be a person of honour before the Lord in which our beliefs and behaviour match, thus reflecting the Lord back to the world (Ephesians 5:8-13).
Relationship: to be person-centred in our practice and culture (Matthew 22:37-38 and 1 Peter 4:8).
Excellence: to value our work as worship and to pursue a high standard as a result (Colossians 3:23-24).
Humility: to be comfortable with failure and it’s subsequent learning, acknowledge it’s not through our own strength, but the Lord’s, that we are successful (Proverbs 22:4).
OUR TABLE MANNERS
The most beautiful moments take place at the table with food, friendship, and conversation. Below are our key principles of practice:
Full hearts, full tummies
Where there is a meal shared, there is a conversation to be had.
Let's talk
Everybody has questions, everybody has a story. Let’s come together and explore them.
Shoulder to shoulder
We were never meant to live alone. There is power in journeying through life, together.
No artificial colours & flavourings
As we journey together, we will ensure an openness and acceptance for all involved.
Table of honour
We are only as fast as the slowest eater. Everybody deserves time and space to process and that is what they will get.
OUR KEY MESSAGES
Our desire is that when someone encounters our ministry, they receive the following messages:
God is Love
We believe in a God that defines love, acceptance and celebration. It’s through these truths that our ministry exists (John 4:7-10).
All are worthy
All people have inherent value and dignity- regardless of their actions and beliefs. This truth shapes all of our conversations (Galatians 3:28).
Sex is good
The act of sex and experience of sexual desire are God-given and to be fully embraced in holiness, security and without shame (Genesis 2:25 and Song of Songs 7:6,12).
No stupid questions
No question or opinion will be discouraged. They will, however, be explored (Matthew 7:7-8).
Don’t get comfortable.
We're not made to stay still; we're made for continual development and growth. Come as you are with questions and leave as you are with direction (Ephesians 4:22-24).
