Job Description

We are a growing church start-up looking for a creative, energetic leader to help us build a vibrant Kid’s Ministry. This isn't just about "running a program"—it’s about dreaming, designing, and leading a space where children and families can encounter Jesus and be discipled.

Why This Role?
This position is uniquely designed for someone who wants exposure. As we are a start-up, you won't be tucked away in a silo. You will be mentored along the journey as you get to take part in the development of the church plant. You’ll participate in leadership discussions and have the freedom to put your fingerprints on the ministry

Key Responsibilities

  • Build & Design: You will have the creative freedom to design the Sunday experience for kids from the ground up, including curriculum selection, room environments, and creative storytelling.
  • Lead the Team: Recruit, train, and lead a team of volunteers, to facilitate Kid’s Ministry.
  • Engage Families: Be a point of connection for parents, helping them feel supported and resourced as they lead their kids in faith at home.
  • Champion a Culture of Safety: maintain policies, ensure compliance (WWCC/police checks), and manage safe environments during activities.
  • Contribute Widely: Even though you are responsible for Kids and Families, as part of a small church team, you may be required to do things outside of your area of focus. Be open and willing to take on new challenges and tasks depending on your gift-mix

Who You Are

  • A Pioneer: You are someone who sees a blank canvas and feels excitement, not anxiety. You aren't afraid to try new things, learn from mistakes, and build systems from scratch.
  • A People-Person: You have a genuine love for people, especially children
  • A doer: You are adaptable, organised and comfortable wearing more than one hat in a small team.
  • A Leader-in-Training: You want to be "in the room" for the inner workings of a church plant. You are hungry to learn about leadership, strategy, and ministry.
  • A Team Player: You enjoy collaborating and want to be part of a close-knit staff tea

What Success Looks Like

  • Implement a Biblically based Sunday curriculum for children
  • Develop strong relationships with children and their families
  • Recruit, train and empower volunteers to execute the Sunday curriculum so that it does not rely on you.
  • In time, develop and contribute to a community-facing strategy plan to reach families in the wider community

Requirements

  • A vibrant, personal faith in Jesus.
  • Alignment with Cultivate Church’s vision, mission and beliefs
  • Has completed, or is currently undertaking, Bible college or equivalent ministry training
  • Good communicator (with kids, parents and leadership).
  • Good organisational skills and comfort with light admin.
  • Systems-oriented – you can work within structures and build new ones to facilitate growth.
  • Previous experience (volunteer or paid) in kids' ministry or education is a plus.
  • Current, valid Working with Children Check
  • Access to a car
  • Availability on Sunday mornings (plus 1 flex-day or two half-days for prep and meetings).
