Part-time Maranoa Congregation Minister

We are looking for a Minister with a passion to live and work in rural area, who is able to work in an ecumenical combined community, as they lead and mentor lay people in worship, preaching and celebration of the sacraments, while caring for members of our community and witnessing in practical ways within the community of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Maranoa Uniting Church is seeking Ministry Agent to minister across Roma, Wallumbilla, Injune, and Arcadia Valley regions. Based at Roma with country hospitality, Big Rig Oil and bottle trees. The Downs Presbytery in partnership with Maranoa Church Council, Roma Combined Churches, Injune Churches and you to minister in congregations in worship, mission and service of the Uniting Church.

Who are we:

The Uniting Church in Australia (the Church) is a large uniquely Australian Christian denomination in Australia with heritage from historical reformed evangelical denominations. In Queensland, the Uniting Church has around 250 congregations and has schools, colleges and large community services (such as UnitingCare Queensland and Wesley Mission Queensland).

The Uniting Church is multicultural, committed to reconciliation with first peoples, calls for reconciliation across its communities and aims to use its people and property resources wisely and in the furtherance of God’s mission in the world.

Within the ministry of the whole Church, Jesus Christ calls men and women to proclamation of the gospel in word and deed through a call to ministry. This calling is exercised by preaching and presiding at the celebration of the sacraments and witnessing in the community of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

What you will do:

  • Service delivery in Roma, Wallumbilla, Injune and Arcadia Valley
  • Pastoral Care for our older members
  • Worship delivery
  • Encouraging and mentoring lay people
  • Community engagement
  • Working ecumenically
  • Working within the policies and procedures of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod including the Safe Ministry with Children policy, and the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant legislation including reporting hazards/incidents, support for injured workers and full participation in return to work plans.
  • Undertake other ministry duties as and when directed within the capabilities of the incumbent.

Key Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Degree in Theology, Ministry or Pastoral Studies (or accepted equivalent)
  • This position is for the exercise of the duties of ordained ministry of the Uniting Church in Australia. Preference will in the first case be given to appropriately qualified Ministers of the Word or Deacons. Alay person may be appointed to the role subject to successful completion of core competency requirements for the ministry of pastor in the Uniting Church in Australia. The successful applicant will be required to comply with the Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice and access regular professional supervision.

  • Substantial experience in specified ministry.
  • Knowledge of diversity of ministry models, including in regional communities
  • Substantial experience of engaging in regional, rural/ farming/ remote communities
  • Ability to appreciate the culture of various regions, as well as the depth of spirituality that already exists in regional communities
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop relationships with local congregations, local communities, missional agencies and agents to discern emerging missional opportunities
  • Service: personable with a commitment to building strong relationship with key stakeholders across the Church and its agencies, boards and committees of the Synod
  • Responsibility: demonstrated attention to details, timelines, analytical and focussed on outcomes
  • Respect: demonstrated ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing with others and manage competing views
  • Integrity: demonstrated ability to act with impartiality and honesty
  • Commitment to working within the purpose and values of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod and adhering to the polices, organisational requirements and processes

  • Current Drivers Licence - Presentation of a current Drivers Licence must be made before your appointment to the position can be confirmed
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check through the completion of a Blue Card Business Application in Queensland (BCB). While not in an employment relationship with the Uniting Church in Australia, presentation of a current BCB card must be made before the appointment can be confirmed.
  • National Criminal History Check to be provided and assessed every 3 years. Presentation of a current National Criminal History Check must be made before appointment to the position can be confirmed.
  • This is an approved placement of the Uniting Church in Australia and the ministerial stipend and allowance provisions will apply.

  • Regional travel and working out of hours can be expected from time to time.
  • Liaise and consult with Synod staff around issues of compliance, such as Safe Church, Workplace Health and Safety
  • To represent the Downs at Presbytery Meetings, Synod-in-Session, Presbytery Retreats, and when requested
  • Pastoral Relations Committee and Standing Committee of the Downs Presbytery
  • Work within the policies and procedures of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod and the provisions of Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant legislations, including reporting hazards/incidents, support for injured workers and full participation in return to work plans
  • Attend to such other matters as may be requested by the Presbytery Chair
  • The successful applicant must be eligible to legally work in Australia and proof of eligibility may be requested.
