About the Role

Koonung Heights-Surrey Hills Uniting Church, located in Balwyn East (Melbourne’s eastern suburbs), is looking for an experienced pastoral carer to offer pastoral support to members of our lively congregation.

The Pastoral Assistant will work with the minister and congregational members to visit members in their homes, in hospitals or in places of care. They will also organise and deliver occasional education about pastoral care for volunteer pastoral carers from the congregation.

The successful applicant will be appointed as a ‘pastor in non-placement’ (level 2). This is a permanent part-time position at 15.2 hours per week. Flexibility is required within these hours to include some after-hours and Sunday work. External personal supervision is integral to the role and will be reimbursed by arrangement.

About You

We are looking for someone who has

• At least two years of relevant experience in pastoral care;
• A tertiary degree or significant post-secondary education in a relevant field (for example, pastoral theology, grief counselling, psychology). At least two units of Clinical Pastoral Education would be well-regarded;
• Church membership in the Uniting Church in Australia or willingness to become a member-in-association in the UCA is a requirement.

The successful candidate will:

• Participate in the UCA’s development program for pastors (non-ordained) and demonstrate required competencies;
• Be willing to participate in team supervision as necessary;
• Have a current Victorian Working with Children Check;
• Have the right to work in Australia;
• Successfully complete a national Police Check before being employed;
• Hold a current driver’s licence and have access to a car.
