The Opportunity

Competitive Advantage HRM & Recruitment is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established national not-for-profit Christian organisation seeking a committed and detail-oriented Compliance Officer for a 12-month part-time contract (3 days per week).

This is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation that is making a lasting impact across Australia through ministry, education, outreach, and community programs. As Compliance Officer, you’ll support the roll-out and ongoing implementation of key compliance, risk, and policy frameworks across all national operations, while working closely with senior leadership.

About the Role

You’ll play a central role in maintaining operational integrity and best practice governance, ensuring that policies and procedures align with external regulatory requirements and internal mission values. Working closely with the National Leadership Team, this position supports the church’s accountability across finance, administration, government reporting, child safety compliance, and risk.

This role offers autonomy, variety, and purpose. You'll support audit preparation, update compliance registers, develop internal resources, and assist with contract and policy management—all while working within a values-driven, relational team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update operational and strategic risk and compliance registers
  • Assist in the implementation and documentation of enterprise-wide compliance frameworks
  • Coordinate tasks related to ACNC, government grants, funding agreements, and external audits
  • Assist with contract management – including compliance checklists, obligations tracking, and document control
  • Develop and maintain compliance policies and resources (e.g., child safety, privacy, risk)
  • Monitor regulatory changes (via compliance subscriptions or briefings) and ensure updates to internal frameworks
  • Provide administrative and reporting support for internal audits and compliance reviews
  • Maintain schedules and records for national meetings, audits, and compliance actions
  • Contribute to policy governance and support with the development and rollout of BCPs and other procedures
  • Liaise with ministry, administrative, and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and mission-aligned implementation of compliance responsibilities

About You

You are an experienced professional who values integrity, structure, and service. You thrive on helping organisations stay aligned with their legal and ethical obligations. You’re collaborative, self-motivated, and able to communicate clearly across diverse teams. You understand or are willing to learn the dynamics of working in a faith-based, national not-for-profit organisation and apply this understanding to the practical outworking of governance and compliance frameworks.

Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, law, compliance, governance, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in risk, compliance, or policy development within a not-for-profit or public organisation
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Teams)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal – with the ability to liaise at all levels
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with ACNC, AUSTRAC, and state-based child safety obligations
  • Understanding of contract lifecycle management
  • Experience working in or alongside faith-based or community organisations
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation impacting not-for-profits and charities
  • Experience supporting internal audits or maintaining enterprise risk frameworks
  • An appreciation of working within a Christian ethos, respecting the values and mission of the organisation

Why Join?

This is more than a compliance role—it’s an opportunity to support a mission with eternal significance. You’ll be part of a caring, professional team serving a national network of churches, ministries, and partner organisations across Australia.

  • Part-time role with flexible, hybrid working arrangements
  • Values-driven, supportive organisational culture
  • Direct access to senior leaders and meaningful contribution to mission oversight
  • Opportunity to shape frameworks that support integrity and governance across a national ministry
  • Work with purpose in a respected and growing Christian organisation
