Medical Mission Aid (MMA)

MMA Ltd is a Christian not for profit organisation with a bold vision of seeing a sustainable improvement in the health of all people in vulnerable communities in low-income countries. We are a public benevolent organisation and a registered charity, independent and faith-based, established by members of the Anglican Church of Australia in 1920.

For 80 years MMA was affiliated with the Church Missionary Society Victoria (CMS Vic Branch). In the late 1990’s MMA became a separate organisation and began supporting health related programs through indigenous / local partners. MMA is committed to working with like-minded partners in the low-income countries we support to enable improved health outcomes.

MMA is Victorian based.

The Mission of MMA:

MMA partners with local Christian churches and organisations in low-income countries to enable the advancement of effective healthcare in disadvantaged communities. This is achieved through provision of medical scholarships, vital medical equipment and locally led preventative health initiatives.

MMA supports projects in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Egypt, Nepal, Pakistan, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.

Executive Officer

The role is to assist the Board position MMA for the future with primary responsibility for:

  • Building the supporter, donor and revenue base, positioning MMA for continued growth.
  • Developing resources and systems to support legal compliance and program management.
  • Assisting the Board in expanding its overseas programs, partners and project developments.
  • Nurturing relationships with overseas project partners.

Reporting to MMA’s Board, the Executive Officer (EO) has overall strategic and operational responsibility for the agency’s programs, expansion, and execution of its mission.

The EO is expected to have knowledge of the field of international development and the management responsibilities of an ACNC registered charity and will be able to develop and implement operational and business plans.

Working Arrangements: Flexible - Part Time (between 2-3 days per week)

Position Description Overview:

  1. To initiate, oversee and manage the operations of MMA.
  2. To implement the priorities of the agency as determined by the Board, specifically by:
    • Overseeing implementation of the MMA Strategic Plan.
  3. Researching and evaluating medical projects and related scholarships for Board approval.
  4. Monitoring, evaluating and updating projects for the Board.
  5. Raising the profile of MMA within the Anglican Church and other like-minded Christian groups, and in so doing, promoting the financial and prayerful support of the medical projects and related scholarships undertaken by MMA.
  6. Enhancing the agency’s communications with its donors and potential donors using various methods available, e.g., newsletters, project reports, social media etc. and ensuring that MMA’s website is kept up to date.
  7. Improving and building upon MMA’s relationships with its in-country partners.
  8. Overseeing the agency’s financial records and complying with ACNC and other regulatory authority obligations in consultation with the MMA Board.
  9. Assisting the Board in developing, improving and maintaining documentation of MMA’s policies and procedures.
  10. To provide regular reports to the Board as determined in consultation with the MMA Board Chair.
