Job Description

Merthyr Road Uniting Church, New Farm, is recruiting a church administration officer to manage the office and undertake a range of administration tasks. These tasks include communication, maintaining files and contact lists, basic finance and bookkeeping (incl. accounts receivable and payable), hall hiring arrangements, updating website, and otherwise assisting the Minister and Church Council in the administrative work of the congregation.

Employment Term: Permanent Part-Time (24 hours per fortnight)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily church office operations, including responding to inquiries (phone, email, in-person).
  • Maintain church records and files (including using SharePoint and other digital platforms).
  • Oversee office supplies and ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • Handle basic bookkeeping duties (accounts receivable/payable).
  • Work with accounting software (e.g., Xero) and collaborate with the Synod’s bookkeeping service.
  • Assist the Ministry agent in preparing worship materials and coordinating volunteer rosters.
  • Maintain church membership lists and email distributions.
  • Support event planning and promote community use of church facilities.
  • Manage hall hire bookings, ensure proper documentation, and coordinate invoicing.
  • Liaise with the Treasurer regarding expenses and payments.

Additional Requirements:

  • Previous experience in administration with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with creative design tools (e.g., Canva, MailChimp).
  • Familiarity with WordPress and Xero accounting software.
  • Experience in running a small, busy office.
  • Eligible to work in Australia.
